The 2008 US Surfski Championships will be staged from Crissy Field in San Francisco. Crissy Field is located just inside the Golden Gate Bridge on the South side. This location offers spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, a large sandy beach for launching surfskis, easy viewing opportunities for spectators, and parking on site.

The popular Friday demo day with clinics is back again at Fort Baker (north end of the Golden Gate Bridge). New for 2008 is the Friday night party with race packet pickup at the Sports Basement’s Presidio store. As in past years, the single surfski race is Saturday and the double surfski race is Sunday. The 4 x 2 kilometer Alcatraz Breakout Relay was introduced in 2007 and was a big hit. It returns in 2008, and will again be on Sunday after the double surfski race. Food and drinks will be served and prizes handed out on location after each event.

There is a minimum $12,000.00 in prize money generously donated by Ocean Paddle Sports, Huki Outriggers & Surfskis, Epic Kayaks and WaveChaser Paddle Series. Register early. The first 100 entrants are guaranteed a goodie bag that includes a jersey donated by PaddleMe Sportswear.

The 2007 US Champs saw racers from ten countries, and in 2008 we expect the largest international field ever including former winners Dawid Mocke of South Africa, and Lewis Laughlin of Tahiti. Paddlers from across the United States will be joining the world’s top surfski paddlers.

Sponsors Ocean Paddle Sports, Huki Outrigger Canoes & Surfskis and Epic Kayaks will have all of their latest products available for demos.

There will also be housing available for racers traveling out of state. Local Bay Area paddlers have offered to open up their homes to help reduce expenses for those coming from afar. Contact Helen Workman to make arrangements. Don't miss your chance to race against the top surfski paddlers in the world over some of the most challenging water conditions around.
